Perfect Cinnamon Crockpot Applesauce
This homemade applesauce is simply perfect! Bonus…it is so easy to make! Ditch the store bought stuff and give this easy recipe a try. I wanted to make a healthy applesauce that was a touch sweet but had those warm fall flavors that we all love this time of year. Some recipes call for brown sugar, but just a touch of maple syrup and molasses are all these apples need to bring out their naturally sweet flavor. Adding cinnamon makes you feel like you are eating a delicious apple pie but without the guilt!
Homegrown and Homemade
One of my favorite bonuses of purchasing our little slice of heaven in northern Wisconsin was the apple tree on our property! Each year we watch it bud, flower, and produce the most delicious red apples! After researching them, I have classified them as either a Cortland or a McIntosh variety due to their red skin and white, sweet, crisp inside.
We usually harvest them in late September. Though it is fall this time of year, sometimes apple picking can be hot! Other times their is a slight bite to the air and when you come inside with those large buckets of nature’s candy, you just feel warm, cozy, and, well….ready to make applesauce!
Tips For Making Perfect Cinnamon Crockpot Applesauce
Choose a variety of sweet red apples with a crisp flesh. After apple picking is the best time to make this! Also, making sure you cut your apples the same size will ensure they are all evenly cooked through. Some recipes call for up to a cup of water for the crockpot, but you do not need that much! A half cup will do to make sure you do not have a watery, flavorless sauce.
I also love adding cinnamon sticks to the crockpot. This takes no effort but really gives it a nice, not overpowering cinnamon flavor. I have also seen some use an emersion blender to smooth out their applesauce. This is fine to do if you like yours to be completely smooth. I like a tad bit of texture to mine so I leave as is.
Can I Make This In The Oven?
Yes! You can make Perfect Cinnamon Crockpot Applesauce in the oven. Just follow the recipe and place in an oven safe dish covered with a lid. Cook at 425 F for about 45 minutes. It’s that easy!
Is Perfect Cinnamon Crockpot Applesauce Healthy?
Yes it is! Apples are some of the healthiest fruits on the planet! They are loaded with vitamin C and quercetin. Quercetin can protect against heart disease and cancer. It also has anti-inflammatory effects. This applesauce also does not contain refined sugar, instead it replaces it with healthy natural sugars found in maple syrup and molasses. These sugars also come with their own little package of health benefits. Use that vitamin C to boost your immune system during cold and flu season!
